Have Your Say about Orillia’s New Official Plan

By: Press Release

Orillia has released its first draft of the proposed new Official Plan and is asking residents to provide their feedback on the draft by attending an open house on Dec. 4.

“The Official Plan is our roadmap for how Orillia will grow and change over the next 20 years. We really want to hear your thoughts about the draft Official Plan so that it reflects what matters most to our community,” said Orillia Mayor Don MacIsaac.

An Official Plan is a long-term policy document that guides land-use planning decisions in the city. Orillia’s Official Plan is expected to be adopted by Council before the end of 2026. Once the new Official Plan has been adopted by Council, then the Province of Ontario must review and approve the new plan.

The purpose of the Open House is to gather feedback on the first draft of the proposed new Official Plan. Key themes of the Official Plan Review and Update include growth management and land use, housing, climate action, transportation, infrastructure, community services, and protecting the natural areas.

In-Person Open House:

Date: Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025

Time: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Location: Orillia Waterfront Centre, 50 Lightfoot Drive., Orillia

“The Official Plan is the vision for the City. Your insight is essential to ensure it reflects the values and priorities of everyone who lives, works and invests in Orillia. Please take the time to review the draft plan and share your feedback by attending the Open House or by submitting written comments. Your input will help shape the future of Orillia,” said Katy Modaressi, Director of Development and Infrastructure Planning.

The Official Plan Review is a multi-year planning process and occurs over four distinct stages. Currently the City is at Stage 3 in this process. At each stage in the process, the public and Council are involved. All input and ideas provided by the community will inform the Official Plan Review.
