The City of Orillia is once again opening its doors – and its garages – to celebrate National Public Works Week with an action-packed Fun Fest on Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Municipal Operations Centre, 20 James St. West.

This free, family-friendly event invites residents to get up close to big trucks and equipment, enjoy hands-on activities, and take part in a morning full of fun.

Back for a third year, the Public Works Fun Fest is bigger and better, with new interactive experiences, expanded equipment displays, and even more activities for all ages. Admission is free, with attendees encouraged to bring a donation in support of The Sharing Place Food Centre.

“We’re excited to welcome families back for another year of Public Works Fun Fest,” said Mayor Don McIsaac. “It’s a great opportunity for kids to climb aboard big trucks, get creative, and enjoy a fun, hands-on day while learning a bit more about the services that keep our community running.”

What’s happening

Tree giveaway – Orillia residents can pick up a new tree sapling to help restore the tree canopy. Approximately 290 saplings will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. One per household.

Free barbecue – Grab a bite from Harvey’s.
Paint the Plow – Help brighten up the fleet with your artwork.
Expanded equipment displays – Climb aboard and explore even more big trucks, emergency vehicles, and machinery.
Games, trivia, and prizes – Activities for kids and adults alike.

City staff will be on site throughout the event to help guide activities, answer questions about careers in public works, and give residents a behind-the-scenes look at the equipment and services that support the community every day.
