Celebrate August on the Trent-Severn Waterway – Free Lockage, Festivals, and so much more!

By: Press Release

Paddlers at the historic Lift Lock and unique overnight stays along the Trent–Severn Waterway.

There’s something magical about standing on a lock wall in the early morning – mist rising off the water, and the first boat of the day drifting through. For over a century, the Trent‑Severn Waterway National Historic Site has connected communities, powered local economies, and provided unforgettable summer adventures, and this August, we are ready to welcome more visitors than ever. With lively festivals, canal-side concerts and events, free lockage, and unforgettable overnight stays right at the water’s edge, this is the perfect time to discover the magic of the Trent-Severn Waterway.

A Season of Momentum

Boating traffic is up across the canal system this season, with a 17% increase compared to last year. Lockstations are busy, visitors are using the canal in full force, and events like Lock & Paddle have drawn record-breaking crowds. With more activities planned this August, the momentum is only building.

Free Lockage – Through September 2, 2025

Whether you’re paddling for the first time or cruising on a family boat trip, there’s no better time to try locking through. Through September 2, 2025, Parks Canada is offering free lockage on the Trent‑Severn Waterway as part of the Canada Strong Pass.

Stay Overnight, Your Way

You don’t need a boat to experience waterway life. Parks Canada offers unique overnight stays that bring you closer to the water. As an added incentive – and as part of the Canada Strong Pass – you can enjoy a 25% discount on camping fees and overnight stays through September 2, 2025, inclusive. There is something for everyone, including:

  • The Parks Canada oTENTik – the perfect mix of tent and A-frame cabin comes together in our oTENTik with its raised floors, cozy beds and furniture; great for campers who want a little extra comfort in the wild.
  • Reservable campsites are a safe and affordable way for any traveller to set up a tent, unwind and experience life at the locks, and… you don’t need a boat to enjoy these hidden gems.
  • Teardrop Ôasis pods are perched above spacious and secluded campsites along the Trent-Severn Waterway and make the perfect adventure getaway for couples, small families and paddlers.
