The Orillia Museum of Art & History (OMAH) is honoured to present a special online auction featuring the work of Roger Kerslake, a beloved and influential Canadian potter and teacher. Launching Thursday, August 14, and running through Wednesday, September 4, this auction offers a rare opportunity to acquire original ceramic works from Kerslake’s personal collection. Proceeds will support OMAH’s ongoing exhibitions and educational programming.
Roger Kerslake dedicated over four decades to the craft of pottery and the mentoring of young artists, first at Georgian College’s acclaimed ceramics program and later through his own studio practice. His work, known for its quiet elegance, functional form, and deep connection to tradition, has been exhibited widely and remains held in both private and public collections.
“Roger believes in the beauty of handmade objects and the value of sharing that with others,” said Heather Kerslake, Roger’s wife and long-time creative partner. “He is pleased knowing that his work will not only find new homes, but also continue to support the arts community he cares so deeply about.”
The auction is made possible through a generous collaboration with Heather Kerslake, who has carefully selected each piece to reflect the breadth and integrity of Roger’s practice. From bowls and mugs to lidded jars and sculptural forms, each work is a testament to his craftsmanship and enduring vision.
“We’re deeply grateful to Heather for making this possible,” said Ninette Gyorody, Executive Director of OMAH. “This auction is not only a celebration of Roger’s legacy, but also an invitation for our community to engage with his work in a meaningful, personal way.”
The auction will be hosted online at https://www.orilliamuseum.org/project/unique-pottery-auction-featuring-works-by-roger-kerslake/ and is open to collectors and enthusiasts across Canada.
Proceeds will directly support OMAH’s mission to inspire, educate, and connect through art and history.
