The Orillia Museum of Art & History (OMAH) is proud to announce the acquisition of 100 items from the recent Gordon Lightfoot Estate Auction. Thanks to the support of a generous donor, OMAH was able to secure a
significant selection of artifacts, the majority of which have meaningful ties to Orillia.
These newly acquired items further strengthen OMAH’s growing Gordon Lightfoot Collection, which preserves and shares the legacy of the internationally acclaimed musician and beloved hometown figure. Each piece provides a deeper insight into Lightfoot’s life, artistry, and connection to the community that shaped him.
“This acquisition represents another important step in our ongoing commitment to tell Gordon Lightfoot’s story in a comprehensive and authentic way,” says Ninette Gyorody, Executive Director of OMAH. “We are honoured to steward these items on behalf of the community and look forward to incorporating them into future exhibitions and programming.”
OMAH will continue to build and preserve the Gordon Lightfoot Collection as part of its dedication to celebrating local history and cultural heritage. Select items from this estate auction will be added to the permanent exhibition dedicated to Gordon Lightfoot, in May 2026.

Community Support Needed for Future Growth
OMAH is now inviting community members, organizations, and businesses to continue to support the development of the Gordon Lightfoot story. The museum is actively seeking funds to:
- Acquire additional Gordon Lightfoot artifacts to further enhance the exhibition.
- Ensure the ongoing development and maintenance of the permanent exhibition, which will serve as a lasting tribute to Lightfoot’s life and career. The financial support of the community is critical to ensuring this exhibition becomes a beacon for visitors from across Canada and beyond, drawing fans and cultural enthusiasts to Orillia for years to come.
“Gordon Lightfoot’s legacy is both a local treasure and a national one,” says Trish Crowe-Grande, Chair of OMAH’s Board of Directors. “These acquisitions help us preserve an important part of Canadian cultural history and strengthen community pride in Orillia’s remarkable story.”
