For the past year, Deby Melillo, an Orillia artist known for her vibrant floral abstracts, has mentored Fable Talbot, a young artist with a love for fine detail and surreal imagery, through the North Simcoe Art Immersion program. What began as a few lessons in the Creative Nomad Studio space, soon evolved into a true creative partnership.

This year they shared Fable’s first major success: the submission and acceptance to an open call for the Muskoka Discovery Centers new gallery. Her piece “Digit (her cat) in the garden” was seen in the spring exhibit. It was a moment that marked a shift – not just from mentor and mentee, but into something more collaborative. Now they’ve turned their attention to a playful new venture: a collaborative Colouring Book full of of their expressive shapes, crisp outlines filled with imaginative details – floating florals and botanical creatures in whimsical settings, page by page is a meeting point of their creative minds, a balance of spontaneity and structure.

It’s not just about selling, it’s about sharing a process that began with trust, grew through experimentation, and lives in every line they draw together. What started as guidance has become co-creation, and their story is only beginning.

Books can be purchased at the Aug 16th Art Pop Up at the Muskoka Discovery Centre in Gravenhurst from 10:00 – 6:00 and again at the Nov 29 & 30 at their Christmas Market. They will also be available a few Saturdays at the Orillia Farmers Market downtown. Hope to see you there!
