The Orillia Museum of Art & History (OMAH) is proud to present the 28th Annual International Women’s Day Art Show, opening in the Mulcahy Family Gallery on May 3 and running until July 26, 2025. This year’s theme, HOME, has inspired a compelling and diverse collection of artwork by 132 women and women-identifying artists from across Canada.
A public opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. at OMAH. All are welcome to attend, with remarks beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Mulcahy Family Gallery.
Since its founding in 1997, the Women’s Day Art Show has grown into a meaningful platform for creative expression, inclusion, and connection. The non-juried format invites artists of all ages and levels of experience—from teens to seniors, emerging to established—to share their voices and perspectives in an atmosphere of encouragement and mutual support.
This year’s show features an extraordinary range of media, including painting (oil, acrylic, watercolour), drawing, ceramics, photography, sculpture, textile and fibre arts, video, and mixed media, all interpreting the concept of HOME. Whether rooted in place, memory, identity, or belonging, each piece contributes to a collective reflection on what it means to find or create home.
“This exhibition is one of the most important community initiatives we host each year,” says Ninette Gyorody, Executive Director of OMAH.
“It not only uplifts the voices of women and those who identify as women across generations and abilities, but it also creates a space where their stories, perspectives, and creative expressions are valued and shared. In doing so, it reflects the museum’s deep commitment to equity, representation, and the power of art to connect and empower.”
The Women’s Art Show is made possible thanks to the ongoing dedication of the organizing team: Juliana Hawke (Coordinator), Mary Ann Tully, Shannon Hawke, Debra Shelswell, and Erin Hawke.
